01 / OVERVIEWProject Overview

Site that opens
five times a year

“365 Days of Children’s Day” is the anniversary website of the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the National Center for the Rights of the Child. We gather the meaning, commemorations, events, and help information of Children's Day, Adoption Day, Foster Care Day, Missing Children's Day, and Child Abuse Prevention Day in one place. Each of the five days has a character in the shape of a square, hexagon, star, oval, or long square, and each character wears a name tag that reads “365 days of ○○ days together.”

BlueCanvas is the company that created the current anniversary website. In the meantime, commemorative greetings, galleries, and award news were accumulated in the year tab each year, and on May 12, 2026, the name of the organization changed from the National Center for the Rights of the Child to the National Center for the Rights of the Child. This time, we proposed two design proposals for what the site would look like if we put down the current screen frame and draw it again from scratch. This page is a record of the process.

Currently, 35 2-depth menus on the site are lined up vertically every day. Color is what menus do. If you press the button above, you will see menus scattered throughout that do the same thing.
  1. 01
    Five days, five outfits

The number of menus varies from five to nine every day, and menus that do the same thing have different names, such as “Greetings” and “Memorials and Greetings,” “Screening Theater” and “Online Memorial Ceremony.” 「Notices and Events」 are also available in the top menu and in the Adoption Day menu.

  2. 02
Home screen showing only one day at a time

The first screen of the wide screen is five full screens, moving one page at a time. Each chapter has a date from #05.05 to #11.19 at the end of the address, but while you are viewing one day, the remaining four days are not visible on the screen.

  3. 03
    Year tab growing every year

Greetings, galleries, and awards for meritorious service are piled up in year tabs every year, and page addresses also have different years, such as sub3_2_2024, sub4_4_2025, and sub2026_painting. To view past records, you must re-select the year on a different page each day.

  4. 04
    Help information inside

Information on how to report child abuse (112 and the Child Protection Call app) is at the bottom of the Child Abuse Prevention Day story page, and information on where to report when a missing child is found is in the Missing Children's Day FAQ. The most pressing information was placed after the anniversary introduction.

03 / FIVE DAYSfive days

The date already
tells the story

Before starting the renewal, we gathered the meaning of the five days from the site text. After organizing why the date was chosen that day, how many days it lasted, and what year it was, I could see how the five days were aligned with each other on the calendar.

5month2026

Date, week, session Source: National Center for the Rights of the Child Daily “Stories” and greetings from the anniversary website

  1. 05.05 · Children’s Day

For children to grow up bravely

It is a day to raise social awareness about respecting the rights of children so that they grow up to be righteous, wise, and courageous. First proclaimed in 1922, the 1923 Children's Declaration preceded the 1924 Geneva Declaration of the Rights of the Child by the League of Nations by more than a year. Children's Week is from May 1 to 7, and 2026 marked the 104th anniversary.

  2. 05.11 · Adoption Day

    1 family has 1 child

The date was set on the 11th in May, Family Month, to symbolize that a family adopts a child and becomes a new family (1+1). One week from that day will be Adoption Week, and 2026 will be the 21st. From July 2025, the adoption process was changed to a public adoption system where the public directly takes charge of the adoption process.

  3. 05.22 · Foster Home Day

    2 families, 2 children

The date was set on the 22nd with the intention that two families, a biological family and a foster family, would raise their two children, our child and our neighbor's child, together in a happy home. Foster care is a system in which a foster family protects and raises children who cannot grow up in their biological home due to the circumstances of their biological parents for a certain period of time, and 2026 was the 23rd foster care day.

  4. 05.25 · Missing Children’s Day

    Finding hope together

It is a day to reflect on society's responsibility for missing children and to create a safe society by preventing disappearances. It was first designated in the United States in 1983, and Korea has held commemorative ceremonies since 2007 and designated it as a statutory anniversary in 2020. The slogan for the 20th meeting in 2026 was “Finding hope together, the miracle of meeting again.”

  5. 11.19 · Child Abuse Prevention Day

    A promise everyone must keep

It is a day to raise interest in the prevention and prevention of child abuse in accordance with Article 23 of the Child Welfare Act, and one week from that day is Child Abuse Prevention Week. The next day, November 20, was the day the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1989. November 19, 2026 is the 20th.

  6. OUR READING

    The calendar is your guide

Four of the five days are in May, and three days are one-week long. Adoption Day and Foster Care Day have meaning in the numbers of the dates. So, in both designs, the date was not used as a decoration, but as a guide to navigate the site.

04 / POINT · LINE · PLANEpoints, line, plane

The five friends are drawn
with dots, lines, and planes.

I divided the five characters into layers. At the bottom are shapes of a different color each day, on top of them are arms and handwriting drawn in the same ink color, and at the top are eyes and cheeks of the same shape. The character was moved as is from the campaign picture on the site, with only the background erased.

  1. POINTsame eyes and cheeks

The four friends had identical white-rimmed eyes, long square closed eyes. The cheeks are round and yellow, with a yellow star and a long blue square on the pink cheek.

  2. LINElineArms and letters of the same ink color

The arms, hands, handwriting on the head, and upper leg lines were all drawn with the same ink color #231815. This is not pure black, but the value obtained when printing ink (K100) is transferred to screen color.

  3. PLANEnoodleDifferent shapes and colors every day

The body is shaped like a square, hexagon, star, oval, or long square, and the color varies from day to day. The reason the five friends look different from each other is because of the faces, and the reason they look like one family is because the dots and lines are the same.

happyI walk with a heart in my hand

The two designs diverged here.

  1. points = 1 dayA · 365 CALENDAR

Each of the 9 dots was read as a day, and the five days were posted on a calendar with 365 days in a year dotted.

  2. line = handB · HAND IN HAND

The ink-colored arms are connected with a single line, depicting the story of an adult's hand connecting a child's day.

  3. side = face of the bladeTwo design ideas used together

The five shapes and five pairs of colors are shared between the two designs. Because it is a face that recognizes the day.

05 / COLORColor

Light colors are made of cotton,
letters are made of dark matching colors

When we counted the pixels of five campaign pictures, one bright color for each day accounted for 91 to 93% of the colored area, and the dark counterpart color used in the words “Together 365 Days” accounted for 6 to 7%. There are five pairs in total, two colors each day.

Bright colors are easy to see as a shape, but when written as text on a white background, the contrast is only 1.2 to 3:1, making it difficult to read. So, we used dark matching colors for the letters, and set separate colors for the green and yellow letters that did not reach 4.5:1.

Yellow is not a letter

If Foster Day Yellow (#FFED0A) is written on a white background, the contrast is 1.2:1. If you place the same yellow as a strip underneath the letters and add black letters, it becomes 14.3:1. Click the button to switch between the two methods.

The day we grow together

1.2:1Yellow letters on a white background · Difficult to read

  1. 01Light colors are cotton.

The bright colors of the five blades are used only on shapes, backgrounds, and bands. When written in white text, the contrast is 1.2 to 3:1, making it difficult to read.

  2. 02The letters are in dark color.

In the picture, use a dark color for the words “Together for 365 days.” Green and yellow did not reach 4.5:1, so separate colors for text were decided.

  3. 03Yellow is a highlighter

Put black letters on top of the yellow. Instead of yellow letters, a yellow band is placed underneath the letters.

  4. 04Heavy days go low

The area for Missing Children's Day and Child Abuse Prevention Day does not use bright colors all over the background, but keeps it calm with light toned-down colors and navy blue.

Round title letters
straight body

The campaign illustration, “365 Days of ○○ Together,” is written in bold, round handwriting that resembles handwriting. This text was kept as part of the campaign illustration, and text that needed to be read accurately, such as the meaning of the anniversary and how to report it, was written in straight Pretendard in both designs.

On top of that, I added one letter to each design. Proposal A had the date written in large bold numbers to make it read like a calendar, and Proposal B had the handwritten words above the character's head written in Caveat, giving it a touch of ink-colored lines.

The words “365 days of ○○ together” in the campaign picture. Every day, I painted it with two colors: a light color and a dark color.

First, I wrote down what people who visit this site come to do. There are children and their guardians who come to congratulate them, but each year, people in charge of downloading posters and adults urgently looking for a way to report come to the same site.

So, I matched the order and names of the menus every day. No matter what day you enter, stories, ceremonies, participation, help, and materials are all in the same place, and reporting and finding organizations can be opened with a single button in the header even before selecting a day.

08 / MOTIONmotion

Every day
a different pace

In the same site, there are days to celebrate, days to wait, and days to observe. So we decided on three principles of movement. The first two are the moves chosen by the two design proposals, and the third is a promise that the two design proposals keep together.

  1. 01

When 9 points light up, the day opens.

In A, the small dot on the calendar grows into that day's shape to fill the screen, and that shape becomes the basis for the next section. The date is the door.

  2. 02

    the line is unbroken

In B, a black line runs down from section to section. The next story is placed where the line passes.

  3. 03

Take your time on heavy days

The shapes on Children's Day can be bright, but on Missing Children's Day and Child Abuse Prevention Day, the shapes are brightened slowly without any bouncing movements. If you turn on “Reduce Motion” on your device, all large movements will stop.

Proposal A · point = one day

365 CALENDARCelebrate one day, observe 365 days

Starting with the campaign logo being a desk calendar, the entire site was redrawn as a dotted calendar with 365 days a year. On the first screen, characters from five anniversaries stand on their dates above 12 rows of dots, and the dot for today's date lights up in yellow. Below that are the days remaining until the next anniversary, five date cards flipped to the side, a May calendar with three weeks passing by, a calm November 19, an exhibition of children's drawings, and a chronology and data room from 1922.

  • The first screen depicts the 365 days of the year with 12 lines of dots and places characters on the five dates.
  • D-day, which calculates the days remaining until the next anniversary based on today's date
  • Five date cards with stories, celebrations, participation, help and resources in the same place for each day.
  • November 19th area with 112 written in the largest number and reporter protection written together.

DIRECTION NOTES

Among the scenes in Proposal A, I chose a moment that I put a lot of effort into directing. Click on the photo to see a larger view of each scene.

  1. Celebrate one day, celebrate 365 days

This is the first screen. The 365 days of the year were marked with 12 lines of dots, and the characters were placed on the dates of the five anniversaries. The dot for today's date lights up in yellow.

  2. Until next appointment D-26

As of today's date, count the days until the next anniversary. On October 24, 2026, it was announced that there were 26 days left until Child Abuse Prevention Day on November 19, and three things that could be done now were listed.

  3. Five days, one heart

Five large date cards are flipped sideways while the screen stays still. Each card contains a story, celebration, participation, help, and resources in the same place.

  4. 1 family + 1 child, 2 families, 2 children

For the Adoption Day and Foster Care Day cards, the meaning of the date numbers was written on the first line of the card.

  5. In May, more often

In May 2026, three bands will pass on the calendar: Children's Week, Adoption Week, and Missing Children's Week. When you press a date, the description on the right changes.

  6. Listen to your child's small signals

For child abuse prevention areas, 112 is written in the largest number on a light blue background, along with the information that reports can be made even if one does not know all the information and that the reporter's identity is guaranteed.

  7. Everyday happiness seen through a child's eyes

This is the painting exhibition area. You can open the six pictures drawn with crayons and view them at large, and select the news by day and year.

  8. A promise that started from one day and continued for 100 years

From the proclamation of the first Children's Day in 1922 to the National Center for the Rights of the Child in 2026, only confirmed years were selected and presented in a horizontal chronological table.

A · 365 CALENDARWhite paper and dark blue letters, colors that light up once a day

365 CALENDARIf one dot is a day

HAND IN HANDOne line is the hand held.

Proposal B · Line = Hand

HAND IN HANDIf we hold hands, one day becomes 365 days

Starting from the fact that the arms of all five characters are drawn with black lines, the line is redrawn into a single line to tell the story of an adult's hand connecting a child's day. On the first screen, one character appears each time a line passes through a ring, and when five stand, a line connects each hand. The line goes down without interruption, holding the hands of five friends, drawing a kite string, a “1 + 1” heart, a line connecting two houses, a lighted window, and two arms embracing each other. After that, it became the clothesline of the painting exhibition and the axis of the 2026 timeline, ending with a small heart in the footer.

  • The first screen where each time a line passes through a ring, one character appears and holds hands.
  • Five scenes in which the lines are drawn sequentially: a connection line, a “1 + 1” heart, a line connecting two houses, a window, and arms wrapping around each other.
  • 112 and I-Guardian Call written in large yellow numbers on a dark blue board without a red warning sign.
  • A painting exhibition where the line becomes a clothesline to hang a child's drawing and a timeline to 2026

DIRECTION NOTES

Among the scenes in Proposal B, I chose a moment that I put a lot of effort into directing. Click on the photo to see a larger view of each scene.

  1. When we hold hands, one day becomes 365 days

This is the first screen. Each time the line from the left passes through the ring, one character appears, and when five people stand, one line connects each hand. Above it, the title and the number of days until the next anniversary appear.

  2. 5.5 · A connection to the sky

In the Children's Day scene, the line becomes a kite string and goes up to the kite in the sunset sky, with a green square tail attached to the end.

  3. 5.11 · Hearts surrounding “1 + 1”

On Adoption Day, a line is drawn with “1”, “+” and “1” and wrapped with a heart, according to the intention of one child per family as expressed in the date.

  4. 5.22 · A line connecting two houses

On foster care day, a line was drawn between two homes, a biological home and a foster home, and two children in the shape of a star were floated on top of it.

  5. 5.25 · Windows with lights on

On Missing Children's Day, the lines come a long way and become the frame and roof of the window, and the dark window picture becomes bright at the end. I lowered the background color and slowed down the movements.

  6. 11.19 · Two arms that embrace

On Child Abuse Prevention Day, the lines become two arms embracing the photo from below. The colors and speed of this scene were also toned down.

  7. Don't worry alone, let us know now

The help area had 112 written twice in large yellow numbers on a navy blue board without a red warning sign. This is when child abuse is suspected and when a missing child is discovered.

  8. Child's drawing hanging on a clothesline

At a painting exhibition, the line becomes a clothesline, and a child's drawing is hung with a yellow clip. Drag with the mouse or slide with your finger.

09 / PROCESSProcess

In four directions
in two directions

To decide what to start with for the first screen, I first compared the four directions with sketches. Two directions became the design proposal, and the remaining two directions were not abandoned but moved to the rules in the design proposal.

  1. 01

    365 day calendar

The direction is to post five days on a calendar dotted with 365 days in a year. The date will be your guide.

Proposal A developed into 365 CALENDAR
  2. 02

    hand in hand

The character's ink-colored arms are connected with a single line, depicting the story of an adult's hand connecting a child's day.

Proposal B developed into HAND IN HAND
  3. 03

    five rooms

The direction is to have one room with a different color each day. I could repeat the current problem of changing my outfit every day, so instead of a room, I left it with a color theme for each day.

    Moved to daily color theme
  4. 04

    help first

The first screen starts with reporting and finding an organization. The nature of the site to celebrate anniversaries together has been blurred, so we moved it to the “When you need help” button on all screens instead of the home screen.

Moved to help button in header
  1. 01Read the site again now

We have organized the locations of 35 menus, five pages on the first screen, year tabs, address rules, and help information.

  2. 02five days summary

The meaning of each day, week, legal basis, this year's episode and slogan are collected from the site text.

  3. 03character interpretation

We divided the five characters into dots, lines, and planes and looked at what was the same and what was different.

  4. 04Color and Contrast

We measured five pairs of colors in the campaign picture and decided on a separate color that could be used as text on a white background.

  5. 05information structure

We wrote down what six types of visitors were looking for, and reorganized the menu into five days and five sections.

  6. 06four-pronged sketch

Calendar · Hand · Room · Help First, we compared the four directions with the first screen sketch.

  7. 07Two designs

We created a main page that can actually scroll in two directions, and new photos were prepared with hands, back view, and a picture of the child instead of the child's face.

  8. 08Mobile and organized

We reorganized the scene on a 390px screen and organized the color, font, and movement standards.

So we decided on four things

The two designs have different movements from the first screen, but the four points below remain the same. This is because no matter which design proposal was chosen, the way the site was operated had to be the same.

  1. 01Five days in the same frame

Each day, place stories, ceremonies, participation, help, and materials in the same order and with the same name. No matter what day you go, you will find the same thing in the same place.

  2. 02Help is always at hand

You can report child abuse (112, Child Protection Call), find a place to report when a missing child is found, or find an organization by pressing the button in the header on any screen.

  3. 03Light colors are cotton.

The bright colors of the five blades are used only on the figures and backgrounds, and the letters are written in dark matching colors or ink colors. The yellow is not a letter but a highlighter.

  4. 04Every year's records are in one drawer

For greetings, gallery, and award news, select the day and year from one data room instead of the year tabs scattered each day.

Instead of the child's face
hands and back view

Since this is a site dealing with children, standards were needed for even a single photo. The photo in both designs does not show the child's face. The scene was filled with an adult and child holding hands, a back view from a distance, a lighted window, and a child's drawing, and no text or trademarks were included in the photo.

COMPAREHow are the two directions different?

Opening the same five days
Dots and lines

The two designs cover the same five days and the same colors, but the words given on the first screen are different. Proposal A unfolds a one-year calendar and tells the number of days left until the next anniversary, while Proposal B follows the hands of the five friends and talks about what adults should do first. The National Center for the Rights of the Child has organized the differences on this site so you can choose based on what you want to say first.
