YOUNGONE · WEBSITE RENEWAL PROPOSAL

Start the story
01 / OVERVIEWProject Overview

A company that creates the world's outdoor gear
from the inside out

Since its establishment in 1974, Youngone has been manufacturing technical outdoor clothing, such as shoes and bags, as an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) for famous overseas brands. With production facilities located in Bangladesh, Vietnam, El Salvador, and Ethiopia, over 70,000 employees work together to make the fabrics that make up the layers of clothes, knits, and even insulation.

After BlueCanvas created the current Youngone website, the company greatly expanded its scope of activities to include eco-friendly materials, renewable energy, and community healthcare and education. We proposed a direction for website renewal to accommodate expanded activities, and this page is a record of the proposal and process.

02 / THE QUESTION

self name label not attached not clothes Create The company, On the homepage What Show Should Shall we?

ANALYSIS

Three things I discovered
on the current homepage

We re-read the website we created through the eyes of first-time buyers and investors. The number of stories the company could tell had increased significantly, but the screen was not able to convey the stories evenly.

01 · MATERIALS

The name of the insulation material I made myself was buried in a long paragraph.

The introduction of the filling included four series and thirteen product names in one paragraph. The information that buyers wanted to compare first was hidden between the sentences.

Select the material as a sample rather than a paragraph
02 · NUMBERS

The same numbers stayed on each page
in different years.

The size of solar installations was listed as 19 MW in 2021 on one page, 40 MW on another page, and about 71 MWp in a recent update. In KEPZ, 2.5 million and 3 million trees remained. It's not that the numbers are wrong, but the reference point is missing.

Attach reference points and sources to all numbers
03 · NEWS

The same news was posted on two separate bulletin boards.

In the news section of the main screen, news of the publication of the English version of the sustainability report was posted twice as Youngone News and ESG News. This happened because news was divided by bulletin board rather than topic.

Collect news in one place and divide topics into tags

I first drew the
four people that open the homepage.

Buyers, shareholders, evaluation agencies, and applicants visit the websites of global manufacturing companies for different reasons. Visitors were divided by reason for visiting the website, not by occupation. This is because for different reasons, the screen you should look at first also varies.

03 / BRAND THINKING

Instead of the label
I looked at the inside of the clothing.

  1. 01 · STITCHA single sweat stops the rain

Waterproof jackets leak at the seams. Youngone blocks rain and wind with seam sealing, which uses tape to close seams, and seamless technology, which attaches without thread. This is the work of over 70,000 hands.

  2. 02 · LAYEROne layer maintains temperature

We personally weave and make the materials that make up the layers of clothes, such as the outer material, membrane, insulation, and knit lining. It has its own insulation, such as VX™, Excelloft and ecoLoft™.

  3. 03 · OUTSIDEand go outside

The clothes made in this way leave Chittagong, Nam Dinh, and San Salvador and go to mountains and cities around the world. What starts on the inside of clothes reaches the outside of the world.

EXPLODED VIEW

When you open a set of clothes, you can see
Youngone's business.

If you take a jacket, layer by layer, you'll find almost everything Youngone does inside it. The business introduction on the main page has been reorganized into these five layers.

  1. 01 · SHELLOuter fabric Raw materials and fabrics

Fabrics are made in Vietnam and Bangladesh in one flow, from weaving to dyeing, finishing, lamination, and printing.

  2. 02 · MEMBRANEmembrane Lamination · Water repellent processing

Lamination equipment is used to attach a film to the fabric, and the water-repellent coating is being replaced with C0 material without fluorine resin.

  3. 03 · INSULATIONlagging Raw materials and fillers

We develop and produce four series of insulation materials: VX™, Excelloft, ecoLoft™, and Nature.

  4. 04 · KNITknit Raw materials · Knit

We knit functional knit fabrics, including circular knits, warp knits, and merino wool knits.

  5. 05 · LINING & SEAMLining and seams Manufacturing OEM · Apparel

Seam sealing and seamless technology close seams and automate down injection to complete a piece of clothing.

BRAND STATEMENT

「Towards the health and happiness of mankind
If we translate “We are moving forward” into the words on the homepage,
“From the inside of clothes to the outside of the world.”

From the representative sentence “As a global leader in the outdoor and sportswear market, we are advancing toward the health and happiness of humanity”From the suggested sentence “From the inside of clothes to the outside of the world”
01 / SHOW THE INSIDE

Shows invisible areas first.

Places that are not visible in the finished garment, such as seams, layers, processes, and materials, become the main characters of the screen. Because Youngone's skills are there.

02 / DATE EVERY NUMBER

Dates are added to numbers.

Numbers that change from year to year, such as the number of trees and solar power plants, include the reference point and source. That way, the old and new numbers don't fight with each other.

03 / HANDS, NOT CROWDS

People show it with their hands.

The 70,000 people are not just numbers in the distant factory landscape. The hands that hang the thread and the hands that place the pattern on the clothes show what they do.

THE LABEL

The name that is not on the label,
as a label on the homepage.

The labels on clothes made by Youngone bear the name of the customer's brand. So, we decided to put Youngone’s own labels throughout the website. Like a woven label, place a dotted line inside the thin border, and write the classification and reference point within it.

PHOTOGRAPHY DIRECTION

Instead of a distant view, we speak
with hands and materials.

The first screen was a view of a sewing factory with many people working in a row. The size of the company was clearly visible, but it was not clear what technology was used and what was being made. In Renewal, we set the standard for photography with the working hands, the texture of the material, and the outside scenery where the clothes go.

04 / COLOR SYSTEM

I kept the blue the same, and added forest and thread to it.

Youngone's blue is taken directly from the logo. To this, I added green from the forests of KEPZ and yellow, which connects various parts of the screen like thread sewing clothes. Yellow originated from the color used in the company's core value poster, “Follow your heart.”

Drawall connectionswith a single dotted line and a thin layer.

Stitch lines represent path, connection, and time, and layers represent structure and data. By drawing the route, history, business structure, and charts on the map with just two shapes, we made it read as the same company on any screen.

CompositionA single line of dotted lines with 10 dashes, 6 spacing, and a thickness of 2px. Stitch in blue on a white background and yellow on a dark background.
RouteOn the map, a stitch route is drawn from the Seoul headquarters to the production base, and only the headquarters is marked with a yellow dot.
TimeThe history is placed above the seam line. Past years are indicated by blue dots, and now are indicated by yellow dots.
LayersBusiness composition and data are shown as thin plates stacked slightly askew. Emphasize only the top layer.

INFORMATION ARCHITECTURE

The menu was cut like a pattern of clothes.

The current menu consisted of seven sections: company introduction, business, ESG, investment information, talent recruitment, public relations center, and others. We took out the materials and technologies that buyers most frequently look for from the business and organized them separately, and organized news and inquiries scattered through the PR Center and other sources. Just as the pieces of the pattern come together to make a set of clothes, seven pieces come together to make a website.

In every step toward the top,
there is eternity.

We connected the manufacturing technology inside the clothes to the outdoor experience outside. This is the main page, starting from the first screen of the snowy mountain, watching the process of a single strand of thread becoming fabric and clothes, and leading to production bases around the world and the forests of KEPZ.

Based on the brand interpretation and information structure outlined previously, orange and dark navy, resembling the dawn of a snowy mountain, were added to this design. Large images and scroll-responsive scenes demonstrate the scale and technology of the manufacturing company.
