01 / OVERVIEWProject Overview

A contemporary art agency that plans, informs, and leaves
a book

ENART is a contemporary art agency that plans, promotes, and publishes contemporary art exhibitions. We announced the Hansae YES24 Foundation's international cultural exchange exhibition and Hyundai Motor Company's exhibition and art sponsorship project, and as the agency for artist Kang Ik-joong, we presented 〈Four Temples〉 for the first time as a Korean artist at the 2024 Egyptian Pyramids International Exhibition 《Forever Is Now》. We also publish art books such as Hyundai Motor Company’s art sponsorship series 『Hyundai Motor Art』 and 『MMCA Hyundai Motor Series 2014-2023』.

BlueCanvas proposed two directions for redesigning ENART's website. ART IN MOTION is as bright as the exhibition hall during the day, and PASSAGE allows you to walk from the exhibition hall at night to the front of the pyramid. On this page, we summarize the brand interpretation, structure, color, font, and movement that led to the two design proposals.

02 / CHALLENGEStarting point

The main screen of the current website
  1. 1Titles such as “ENART Introduction” and “ENART was with us” are placed above the three photo slides.
  2. 2Six portfolios are placed one after another in equal-sized cells.
  3. 3The published books are divided into a portfolio section and a news card.

FOUR QUESTIONS

Renewal started with
Four Questions

  1. Q1
Can you see what kind of company it is on the first screen?

Currently, only titles such as “ENART Introduction” are placed on the photo slides. Both design proposals describe what ENART does in one sentence on the first screen.

  2. Q2
Can the exhibition held in front of the pyramid be the same size as the other examples?

Proposal A spread out the representative example to fill the width of the screen, and Proposal B created a separate golden framed scene in front of the pyramid.

  3. Q3
Where should I put my published book?

Currently, the book is divided into a portfolio section and a news card. Proposal A had a filter that filtered out only publications, and Proposal B had shelves that gathered books together.

  4. Q4
Can planning, promotion, publishing, and education be read as one flow?

In both design proposals, the business areas were rearranged in order from before the exhibition opened to after it closed.

23 PROJECTS, SORTED

If we divide the twenty-three cases by type of work,

The 23 public portfolios were sorted by most recent and then regrouped by type of work. Promotion accounted for the most with ten, followed by exhibitions and projects with five, and publications with three. Although there are only three books, each book contains as many as 10 years of records.

03 / NAMEReread the logo

There was
「Ann」 in the middle of the name.

We re-read the current logo before creating the new emblem. The story of the entire website is derived from the five letters ENART, Art Event & Education below them, and the color transition from cyan to magenta.

01 · E & ART

Lee·Ann·Art

If you read ENART out loud, it is Lee, Anne, Art. The “Ann” in the middle is the same as reading the English word and, and the sentence under the logo, Art Event & Education, also contains &. We read this name to mean a company that connects art and people.

02 · ONE SHAPE

three consecutive letters

The three letters N, A, and R share pillars. The right pillar of N becomes the left pillar of A, and the diagonal line of A ends below the pillar of R. I read this uninterrupted piece overlapping with ENART's work, which goes from planning to promotion and publication.

03 · HAIRLINE

a thin line of the same thickness

The five letter pillars are all thin lines of the same thickness. Unadorned lines do not obscure the work. In both designs, the screen was divided with wide margins and thin lines instead of thick decorations.

04 · TWO INKS

two inks

If we look at the colors of the logo one by one, E is #00A0E9 and T is #E4007F. Among the four primary color inks used in printing, 100% cyan and 100% magenta are the same values commonly used when transferring to screen colors.

05 · OVERPRINT

Look at the overlapping images

The purple color in the middle A is where the two inks overlap. If you count the densities of the two inks backwards for each column, cyan goes from 100% to 0% and magenta goes from 0% to 100%. Since the name of the company publishing the book was printed in the color of the printing ink, I decided to choose the colors in the two designs from the ink and paper.

04 / WORKENART'S WORK
  1. From before the exhibition opens
to after the book comes out

ENART's work is laid out in chronological order for each exhibition. The scene order in both designs came from this line.

Four types of people

The website of an art agency is visited not only by representatives from companies and foundations looking to entrust work, but also by writers, reporters, and parents looking for art education for their children. It was planned like an exhibition route .

At the exhibition hall, the order in which visitors walk is determined first and then the works are hung. For the main screens of both designs, the scene order was determined in the same way. The first scene introduces the company, goes through planning, promotion, and publishing scenes, and finally reaches inquiries. The colored dots are what each scene shows.

06 / COLORcolor chart

I chose
Day and Night from the two inks.

A dark purple color appears where cyan ink and magenta ink overlap on white paper.

The colors you see when you overlap them

The logo is stamped in cyan and magenta. Instead of using these two colors as is, the two designs started with the colors created when ink is overlapped. If we divide the representative colors of the two designs into inks, they are not far from the two inks of the logo.

  • Proposal ACobalt#2349E8C85 M69 Y0 K9

It is close to a blue that overlaps cyan and magenta. This is the basis for the scene “Until art reaches people.”

  • Proposal AVermilion#EE492CC0 M69 Y82 K7

It's closer to red that overlaps magenta and yellow. This is the color of the ribbon sculpture and door scene.

  • Proposal BNight#0A0F1EC67 M50 Y0 K88

It is a chestnut navy blue layered with ink over cyan and magenta. This is the basis for the entire page.

  • Proposal BGold Leaf#D4AF6AC0 M17 Y50 K17

It's gold with a little bit of magenta and ink added to the yellow. This is the color of the frame, numbers, and buttons.

CMYK values are an approximation of screen colors simply converted without a print profile.

Ingredients of the day and ingredients of the night

Proposal A envisioned a sunlit workbench. I placed vermilion and cobalt ink samples on ivory paper, and the ribbon sculpture written on the first screen.

Proposal B reminded me of the exhibition hall after the sun sets. I placed gold frame edges, gold leaf, and cream colored paper on a navy blue cloth and turned on just one stand. You can compare the two materials by dragging the center line left or right.

Proposal A fills the screen with a large Manrope like an exhibition poster, and changes just one or two words to italic serifs to give it some rhythm. The samples below change in thickness from 200 to 800 as you scroll.

The movement in both designs follows the speed at which the viewer walks in front of the work. As you scroll down, the sculpture spins, enters the frame, and the letters light up word by word. The four cards below actually move as you scroll and follow the mouse.

  8. Records remain in books

The eight published books were gathered together like a bookshelf. If you hover your mouse over it, the cover of the book will appear.

09 / FILMfour scenes and film

I put the
next scene within one scene.

For the first scene of Proposal B, I drew four separate scenes representing planning, promotion, publishing, and the world. The frame in the middle of each scene was composed so that it contained the next scene, and the four scenes were connected into a 10-second film. The ribbon in Proposal A was initially created as a 6-second video, but was changed to real-time 3D in the design proposal.
